What people loved

One of the largest, greenest parks in central Istanbul, with mature trees and a peaceful feel minutes from BeşiktaşOttoman pavilions turned cafés (Çadır, Malta) for Turkish breakfast or tea in a palace settingClean and well maintained, with a pond, playground and plenty of benchesFree, and easy to combine with Ortaköy, Çırağan and the Bosphorus shore

What wore them down

Steep climb from the shore road; less fun in summer heatThe northern section is less well maintained than the south and topBosphorus views are mostly glimpses through trees rather than open panoramasIt's a lovely city park, not a must-see; most short-stay visitors skip it

Parking & getting there

Driving is possible

Possible but rarely worth it: Beşiktaş traffic is heavy and cars pay to enter the park. If you drive, use the İSPARK lot inside Yıldız Korusu or the Çırağan roadside İSPARK; otherwise walk from Beşiktaş.

Driving rules in Istanbul

Don't drive in central Istanbul: the tram, metro, Marmaray and ferries reach every major sight faster and parking near them is scarce and expensive. A car only makes sense for the upper Bosphorus (Emirgan, Rumelihisarı), the land walls, Miniatürk or trips out of the city.

  • İSPARK municipal parking (zoned tariffs). Most public car parks and kerbside bays are run by İBB's İSPARK; fees are hourly bands by zone, raised from 1 January 2026 by the İBB Council. Fatih historic peninsula (Sultanahmet/Eminönü) and Kadıköy Rıhtım are the top zone: open/multi-storey lots 200 TL for the first hour, 240 TL 1–2 h, 300 TL 2–4 h, 380 TL 4–8 h, 550 TL 12–24 h; kerbside 220 TL first hour, 650 TL per day. Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Şişli, Üsküdar and the rest of Fatih/Kadıköy: lots 140 TL first hour, 230 TL 2–4 h; kerbside 170 TL first hour. Outer districts such as Sarıyer and Eyüpsultan are cheaper (lots 110 TL first hour). Many lots near sights are private (otopark) and set their own prices. ntv.com.tr
  • Bosphorus bridge and tunnel tolls (HGS only). The 15 Temmuz Şehitler (Bosphorus) Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge charge 59 TL per car per crossing in 2026 in both directions; Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is 95 TL. The Avrasya (Eurasia) Tunnel under the Bosphorus is also tolled. There are no cash booths: cars need an HGS tag/sticker (rental cars normally have one and recharge you). If you pass without balance, top up or open an HGS account within 15 days to pay only the toll; after that a fine of up to four times the toll applies. medyascope.tv
  • HGS penalty window. Unpaid toll passes: pay within 15 days to avoid the administrative fine; between 15 and 45 days you pay the toll plus a fine equal to the toll; otherwise the fine is four times the tariff. OGS was abolished in 2022, so HGS is the only system. isbank.com.tr
  • Traffic. Istanbul has some of the worst congestion in Europe; the old city (Sultanahmet/Eminönü) and Beyoğlu have narrow, steep, one-way lanes, pedestrianised streets (İstiklal, Taksim) and lots that fill by mid-morning. Bridge crossings at rush hour (roughly 7–10am and 5–8pm) can take an hour. Google Maps (nearby parking search, 2026-10-17)
