Nurullah Gökdoğan

Founder of KraftStories and editor of The Hype Gap. He wrote the scoring rules and is accountable for every verdict on this site.

Background

Nurullah founded KraftStories, a hands-on workshop company with studios in New York City’s Financial District and Honolulu’s Chinatown, where people book mosaic lamp making, candle pouring and other craft classes for date nights, birthdays and team events.

Before KraftStories he worked at PlusMinusOne, a mobile app studio. He grew up in Turkey, which is one reason Istanbul was among the first cities on this site.

He also built and edits two local guides, Local Hawaii Events and Local NYC Events, hand-checked indexes of classes, free culture and volunteer days that read every listing off the venue’s own website.

Why he started The Hype Gap

Running workshops in two of the most visited cities in the US means a steady stream of visitors asking the same question: is the famous thing actually worth it? Star ratings never answer it, because nearly everything famous has 4.5 stars. The Hype Gap separates fame from quality so that question gets a straight answer.

What he’s responsible for

  • The scoring rules and any change to them.
  • Every published verdict, rubric score and editorial override.
  • Reviewing reader corrections and fact suggestions under the editorial standards.
