Why Reality is 68

Lives up to its fame3/5Reviewers enjoy the quiet and the piazza but note the cathedral interior is unremarkable; it is a pleasant town rather than a showstopper.
Value for money5/5A few euros by train, free town and cathedral; spending is on food and wine you choose.
Can’t get it elsewhere3/5Worth it as a cheap half-day for food and wine, not as a sightseeing trip: almost no travel cost, but Trastevere and Testaccio give you great Roman food without leaving the city. Choose it for countryside atmosphere, not monuments.
Easy to do4/5Hourly 30-minute trains from Termini; the walk up from the station and patchy buses between Castelli towns are the only friction.

Parking & getting there

Don’t drive

Take the train instead: Frascati is 30 minutes from Termini and the hilltop centre has limited, paid (APCOA-managed) street parking. If you do drive, the station car park below town is the simplest option.

Driving rules in Rome

Don't drive in central Rome: almost every headline sight is inside a camera-enforced ZTL, traffic is heavy, and the metro, trams, buses and walking are faster. A car only makes sense for the Appian Way catacombs, Ostia Antica and Tivoli (Villa Adriana, Villa d'Este). Park in a garage outside the ZTL, or at your hotel if it registers your plate.

  • ZTL Centro Storico (historic centre). Closed to unauthorised cars Mon–Fri 6:30–18:00 and Sat 14:00–18:00 (not on public holidays). Night ZTL Fri and Sat 23:00–03:00 (not on holidays, off in August). Covers the Pantheon, Navona, Trevi, Campo de' Fiori, the Ghetto, Monti and Piazza Venezia. Camera gates (varchi) record every plate, and a fine is mailed for each unauthorised entry. With a rental car it reaches you through the rental company, which usually adds a handling fee. Taxis, NCC cars and disabled-badge holders are exempt. Motorbikes and mopeds may enter freely (except the Tridente). romamobilita.it
  • ZTL Tridente (Piazza del Popolo – Spanish Steps – Via del Corso). Closed to unauthorised cars and also motorbikes/mopeds Mon–Fri 6:30–19:00 and Sat 10:00–19:00 (not on holidays). romamobilita.it
  • ZTL Trastevere. Day: Mon–Sat 6:30–10:00 (not on holidays). Night: Fri and Sat 21:30–03:00, plus Wed and Thu from May to October (off in August). 30 km/h limit. romamobilita.it
  • Night ZTLs San Lorenzo and Testaccio. San Lorenzo: Fri–Sat 21:30–03:00 (plus Wed–Thu May–October). Testaccio: Fri–Sat 23:00–03:00. Neither runs in August. romamobilita.it
