Unmissable in winter when a swell is running; in summer there is little to distinguish it from other North Shore beaches.

Questions people ask

When is the best time to see big waves at Pipeline?

Winter, roughly November through February, when north swells can push waves past 30 feet. Check a surf forecast before driving up; on flat days there is little to see.

Can you swim at Banzai Pipeline?

Only on calm summer days (about May–September), and only after checking with lifeguards. In winter the shallow reef and powerful surf are extremely dangerous.

Where do you park for Pipeline?

At the free ʻEhukai Beach Park lot or along the road. It fills on big-surf days, contests, weekends and holidays, so arrive early.

Is ʻEhukai Beach the same as Pipeline?

Pipeline is the reef break just offshore; ʻEhukai Beach Park is the easiest public access to watch it from the sand.

Are there food or drinks at ʻEhukai Beach Park?

No vendors on site; bring food, water and shade. There are restrooms and showers.
